Meet the team

Originally from Nottingham, Dr. Matthew Paterson qualified at Birmingham University in 2004. He spent 4 years post-graduation providing high quality dentistry in the Nottingham and Newark area, when he completed a certificate in Advanced Restorative Dentistry.

In 2008, he decided to move to the beautiful west country and initially chose Somerset as his base. He has recently worked in private practice in the Beaminster area and most recently here at Lyme bay Dental and Implant Clinic where he has been practicing since 2014.

In 2018 Matthew completed a masters degree in Dental Implantology at the University of Bristol. Matthew was awarded with a merit award and earned a distinction grade for his final year dissertation project. Matthew has felt privileged to develop his theoretical and academic knowledge whilst enhancing his clinical experience of placing implants at Lyme Bay Dental and Implant Clinic.

Matthew shares the vision of Lyme Bay Dental and Implant Clinic and Portman Dental, where he will continue to strive to provide high standards of dentistry. He is frequently told he has a knack for putting nervous patients at ease and is a self-proclaimed perfectionist where his work is concerned.

Matthew is a member of the British Dental Association (BDA), the International Team of Implantology (ITI) and the Association of Dental Implantology (ADI).

Matthew currently lives in Somerset with his wife, two young children and their beloved black Labrador.

His main passions are providing high quality dentistry, rugby, cooking and enjoying the fantastic great outdoors that the south west area provides.

Duncan Edworthy was educated in the West Country of England and graduated as a dentist from the University of Birmingham (UK) in 2004.

After working in the field of hospital Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and in general practice he completed the membership examinations for the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2006. In 2007 he began the four-year specialist training pathway in Prosthodontics at the Eastman Dental Institute, University College London. During this time he obtained a Masters in Clinical Dentistry from University College London and in 2011 he completed the examinations for Membership in Prosthodontics at the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh.

He is recognised by the General Dental Council as a Specialist in Prosthodontics. Duncan’s specialist areas of interest include the surgical placement and prosthetic restoration of dental implants, crown and bridgework, aesthetic dentistry, and multi-disciplinary cases. He enjoys making dental treatment a pleasant experience, especially for nervous patients, both with and without the use of anaesthetist assisted sedation techniques. Duncan is the Honorary Dental Consultant for the Royal Society of Musicians of Great Britain and regularly works with and provides treatment for professional musicians.

Outside of dentistry he enjoys playing the trombone, cooking, and traveling.

After leaving Aylesbury High, Leila went to study dentistry at Sheffield University and graduated in 2001. She stayed working in the Sheffield and North Derbyshire area for another 6 years after graduation, and then decided to go back home to Aylesbury in 2007. Leila continued to work in Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire in private practices for another 15 years combining these with teaching clinical dentistry at Kings College London and lecturing at University College London on the Masters Sports Medicine course. Her last practice was in her home village of Aston Clinton which she loved. She says there was something very special about treating the community she grew up in, her family, friends, old school teachers and even primary school dinner ladies. The familiarity with them, and the local area was a joy. Leila spent 7 years working in Aston Clinton whilst her daughter was small, before deciding to relocate to the beautiful Jurassic coast for new adventures with her family in 2022.

Leila is credited by many patients and colleagues for her kind and caring manner, and she is dental phobia trained and has dedicated her career to being able to put her patients at ease.

Leila has a passion for orthodontics and cosmetic dentistry, she enjoys being able to take patients through a journey from their first appointment with her calm and reassuring manner, to treatment planning and clear explanation of the next step, every step of the way. When a patient is lacking confidence with their smile Leila strives to put the patient first and create the most aesthetically pleasing outcome to ensure all her patients leave confident and happy. Leila uses different treatments and techniques to give patients many different options like teeth straightening, using the world renowned Invisalign system of removable clear aligners, whitening, fillings and veneers and crowns.

In Leila's spare time she enjoys collecting apples from her orchard and renovating her “new” old house, also taking long walks with the family dogs. Animals, gardening and cooking are her passions. She loves growing her own then cooking up a storm for friends and family and spending her early mornings feeding the chickens, rabbits and tortoises and watering the plants before heading in to work. She enjoys getting out on the water with family and friends exploring the coastline on the paddle board and is planning to get involved with the local gig club.

Leila has been a qualified Pilates teacher for over 3 years, she decided to teach Body Control Pilates in her spare time while raising a young family and working as a dentist. Leila is very driven and passionate about helping people.

Miklos Poratunszky is originally from Hungary, and qualified from Budapest Semmelweis Dental School in 2010. Since then he finished his postgraduate studies also in Budapest and entered a Hungarian specialist register as a Conservative dentist and Prosthodontist in 2017. Miklos recently completed a postgraduate diploma in dental implantology at Cambridge university in 2021.

Being passionate about designing and creating highly aesthetic and functional smiles, he soon realised that it is almost impossible to achieve nice natural looking teeth with a stable result, without aligning and up righting them.

He became interested in teeth straightening as a supportive tool to his primer restorative work, but noticed that instead of expensive and invasive smile makeovers with crowns and veneers, it is often enough to adjust the position of own teeth by straightening them, whitening them and if needed, minimal invasively refine their shapes at the end to deliver a desired result with which both, the dentist and the patient, will be highly satisfied. He is constantly developing his knowledge in this area and experienced in Invisalign, Inman Aligners, Fast Braces and Six Month Smile systems.

In 2021 Miklos decided to extend his aesthetic portfolio by adding dermal filler treatments (specifically lip fillers) and anti wrinkle treatments, he completed his qualification in London with Silk Health Aesthetic and the Derma Institute. He is a member of the Sunny Aesthetics Society. Having comprehensive university based anatomical knowledge and more than a decade of experience in the dental aesthetic field.

When not working, you can also find him lying on a beach or riding a wakeboard with his friends during summer or skiing in Europe during winter. He is a great believer of an active and healthy lifestyle.
